The Moon Wolf represents a person who has entered the story of personal awareness and awakening. They have glimpsed a vision of something outside of their experience that has allowed them to veer off the path of forgetfulness. Now following a new path, made from the intention of discovery and awareness, the Moon Wolf individual begins a Journey that will connect them to their soul, the earth, and their community.

THE MOON WOLF TALE

The story of the Moon Wolf chronicles a journey of self-discovery through a visionary dream and the reawakening of forgotten knowledge. To understand this tale, you must first know the theory of the transmigration of a spirit into the living realm. It is believed in many spiritual traditions to be the moment of forgetting, where memories of previous existences fade so that you can find yourself once again. The narrative of the Moon Wolf tale exemplifies such a phenomenon.

In this dream, a Wolf finds himself traveling the landscape alone in search of a path. Along his journey, the wolf is guided by the smell of food cooking on a fire and encounters a shallow, wide creek running through a dessert canyon.  Across the creek is a man cooking on a fire by his canyon side dwelling. To the surprise of the man, an invitation to the wolf was made to cross the stream and join.

The wolf made the decision to cross the creek.  A symbolic emotion of relief and shedding its journey in the cool waters of the creek as it joined the man on the other side.

Approaching the man, the wolf can sense that he has a kind and ancient soul: sagacious, patient, and compassionate. He offers his home to share with the wolf and after feeling a sense of renewal from crossing the creek, the wolf accepts the invite.

With a sense of community and growing connection between the two, the man begins to tell stories.  And the man told MANY stories! He taught the wolf through these stories about life lessons, ways of living better, and how to listen to the earth and spirits around them.  A sense of belonging and purpose came into both the wolf and man’s life.

One evening, brightened by the light of the full moon, the wolf wonders to the creek for a drink of water.  As the wolf looks down to take a drink, it pauses and recognizes its reflection in the moon lit water and, for the first time, becomes aware of what a wolf looks like. Stuck in a gaze and amazed at the realization of its image, the man joins to see what has mesmerized the wolf.  In amusement, the man tells the wolf that its reflection is merely an illusion of his current life and that the wolf is just one of many lessons he is learning. He tells a story of how we live many lifetimes so that we can find ourselves again through many different lessons until the life that comes by where we can recall all our lessons and move on from the repetitive cycle of forgetting and remembering.   He teaches the wolf that there is a way to unearth what is truly forgotten, and the wolf must learn to perceive beyond what his reflections shows him.

During this lesson, the human directs the wolf's attention to the moon, telling him stories of how the Moon Spirit has watched over all of our lifetimes. He introduced the wolf to the spirit of the moon, which in turn greeted the wolf. At this moment, the spirit of the moon asks the wolf if it would like to learn about the lessons it learned in other lifetimes and, with agreement, the moon begins to tell the wolf of all the lifetimes it watched over, recounting the lessons and events of each life.

The conversation went on through the night. Story after story, the moon crossed the sky and right before it fell into the horizon, it told its final story of the wolfs life it lived now. With a moment of awakening, the wolf felt the energy of all the lives lived and lessons learned. Filled with connection and awareness, the wolf thanked the Moon for reawakening its memory and they said their farewell until the next time they would meet again. The Moon sank beneath the horizon and the dream ended.

This journey ultimately guides the wolf to the human, who was waiting to help in its reawakening. Through the celestial narratives of the moon, the wolf awakens to the totality of its past and future experiences, achieving complete self-awareness once more. For the remainder of its lifetime as a wolf, it decided to carry the name "Moon Wolf" in appreciation for the guidance bestowed upon it by the spirit of the moon.
